Baitfish detection COMING
Research's strongest single signal is the location of vendace/herring schools — predators lurk at the school edges.
Connect sonar (Lowrance / Garmin / Humminbird Bluetooth) → see schools on the map in real time
Sentinel-3 satellite shows chlorophyll (plankton → vendace → predator)
User observations — "saw a school at 17:30 east of Enonsaari" → other users benefit

Alpha
BiteWave's scoring is based on peer-reviewed research, not fabricated accuracy claims. We don't have enough verified user catches yet to claim a hit rate. Here's what we DO know:

Honest disclosure: We are in alpha. As user catches accumulate, this card will show real hit accuracy per region and species — not before. Competitor comparison is intentionally hidden until we have verifiable data.
How confidence % is calculated
BiteWave's score combines 20+ signals into one 0–100 number per spot, species and time. Weighting is research-based: peer-reviewed factors count more, folklore (like solunar) near zero.

Turbid water → fluoro (Vogel & Beauchamp 1999)
Raises HIGH
Solunar major/minor (folklore)
Minimal WEAK
Baitfish, structure and water color decide it — peer-reviewed evidence. Solunar is kept because anglers expect it, but its weight is near zero (a 2023 salmonid study found no effect).
Data sources: NOAA · ECMWF · ICES · Luke (Natural Resources Institute Finland).
What we can't promise
Honestly: fishing can't be fully predicted — nature is nature. These are things BiteWave cannot tell you reliably, no matter how much data:
Fish mood (sated vs. hungry, spawning) doesn't show in data
Solunar peaks refuted in peer-reviewed research (2023) — offered only because users expect them
Air pressure level alone has no effect on fish behavior — the relevant signal is pressure change
Individual trophy fish move differently than the population average — they cannot be predicted from average data
Sudden oxygen drops / algae blooms on eutrophic lakes require real-time water sensors (rare)
Local fishing pressure without community data is unknown
That's why your catch logs are the only way to truly improve predictions — every log teaches the AI more about your spots than any scientific model.

Safety: check ice conditions, weather changes and life jacket use before going out. ⚠ Trolling routes and spot markers are data-based suggestions — DO NOT follow the line blindly. Watch the map, your sonar, and your eyes ahead at all times. Reefs, rocks, shallows, and fog-related visibility are your responsibility. Important: Recommendations are forecasts — surprises happen in nature. Verify valid licenses, minimum sizes and closed seasons before your trip. Regulations may change mid-season.
Catch & release: if you don't need the fish for food, release carefully. Use barbless hooks for sensitive species (trout, zander during spawn).
